Mis-posted

I stand corrected. In a previous post I stated that it was better to feed your cat dry foods. Actually, wet canned cat foods are better. Research your choice of food before testing it on your cats. You want to include all of these factors:
nutrients, moisture, ingredients, artificial fillers, and colors, etc. In the wild, your cat would be eating the animal whole and the bones as well, so when you feed your cat you want to include all of those nutrients it would be receiving from that animal. Purina is not to great. It has ingredients such as tetra sodium pyrophosphate which is a little toxic and has a slightly irritating chemical compound :P

Lisa A. Pierson is a great nutritionist and has a lot of great health facts to explain the choices you have for your cat's diet. She recommends canned food rather than dry kibble. She explains the negative impacts of feeding your cat dry kibble. These include:
low water level, carbohydrate level too high, and the types of protein it may be getting are plant based rather than animal based. If you want to insure that your cat is at its healthiest take the time to do some research first.

We are now feeding our two cats a grain free canned food called WELLNESS. We now have Chicken and Herring Formula and a Chicken Formula. It says that it is guaranteed to meet nutritional levels. Occasionally we feed them a dry food called WELLNESS complete health. This dry food keeps your cat lean and strong, and supports skin and coat health. It has no animal byproducts and no corn, wheat, or soy. It is a deboned chicken, chicken and rice recipe. This is given as a little treat and a change for them as well.

Our sudden change in food was because of Meow, and :o Sassy's infection (UTI, urinary track infection, and/or struvit crystals cause infection and/or blockage of the urinary track). We needed to give them more moisture because the water level in dry food usually is too low. You can't always depend on your cat that they will be drinking sufficient water levels. Now they are doing just fine and their diet is keeping them healthy and hydrated.

Hi Lisa,
Aunt Deb here.
We have been feeding our male cat Tabbee dry food for all of his adult life (either Purina One or Iams). The times that we fed him wet food he would get very aggressive (maybe because of the strong meaty smell of fresh food?), so we decided to stay with the dry food. He has never had a urinary tract infection or any other illness. We give him some hairball ointment once a week, brush him regularly, and he only had one hairball that we remember. The trick that we use to make sure he gets enough water is we add water to his dry food when we feed him.. enough water so that the kibble is floating in the water. Tabbee is not a nibbler... when we serve the food to him, he drinks all the water out of it then he chews down the dry food, which has been moistened by the water. We also give him fresh water all the time. And of course we brush him as many times as he lets us.
Just wanted to let you know that he has been eating only dry food for over 11 years.
Love, Aunt Deb
